MENTAL SYMPTOMS OF STRESS AND ANXIETY

Last week I talked about the physical symptoms of stress and anxiety. Stress and anxiety can also be exhibited in your life mentally. Not only does your body go into high alert physically when you are under stress and feel anxious, but your mind goes into fight or flight as well.

Lack of focus and concentration is a common symptom of stress and anxiety. Worrisome thoughts about things that are troubling you may repeatedly jump into your consciousness. Or your mind may feel sluggish and unable to focus clearly, Other mental symptoms of stress and anxiety include;

1) FAST THINKING which can cause problems in life situations and decisions.

2) CONSTANT WORRYING which is a negative thought pattern that will only make anxiety worse.

3) NEGATIVE SELF-TALK which can cause you to believe negative messages causing continued stress.

4) And CATASTROPHIC THINKING which is often defined as the “what ifs”. “ What if I get so anxious I can’t breathe?”, What if my heart races so fast I have a heart attack?”, “What if I die?” Catastrophic thinking triggers the fight or flight response and can be an underlying reason for anxiety.
